n8n Community vs Business vs Enterprise: How to Choose

Updated 2026-10-20 · by Fahmi Fahreza

Compare Community, Business, and Enterprise by deployment, collaboration, and operating requirements before choosing an n8n plan.

Which plan fits?

Choose around explicit requirements: who uses the system, how changes are approved, who runs infrastructure, and what support is needed. Company size or name alone does not decide the plan.

The Community documentation describes the free self-hosted edition’s limits. Use n8n pricing for paid plans. Features can change; recheck your requirements before procurement.

SSO and Git version control do not automatically require Enterprise: both are also listed in Business when checked. Enterprise lists capabilities such as an external secret store, log streaming, and support with an SLA. Confirm the exact scope in the quote rather than relying on feature names alone.

Three decision examples

A small team running internal workflows. Check access-sharing needs and server management capability first. Community can be an option when its feature and license boundaries fit; establish backups and an operations owner.

A team needing change controls. Document authentication, testing environments, and approval requirements. Compare Business and Enterprise against unmet needs rather than assuming every governance feature requires Enterprise.

An organization with several teams and important integrations. Document dependencies, monitoring requirements, and the support path you expect. Assess plan capabilities alongside internal responsibilities.

Self-hosted does not mean Enterprise

Self-hosted describes deployment; Enterprise describes a plan. Community also runs self-hosted. Moving to your own server does not remove updates, access security, monitoring, or recovery testing. Cloud customers still need to manage credentials and integrations on their side.

How should an upgrade be planned?

Inventory versions, active workflows, integrations, access, and required features. Test in a separate environment, define backups and rollback, and validate critical workflows with process owners. Changing plans does not fix poor data quality or workflow design.
