OpenAI Dots: A Starter Guide for Indonesia

Updated 2026-10-06 · by Fahmi Fahreza

OpenAI Dots supports ongoing work with a cloud computer and apps you permit it to access. Start by checking account eligibility, choosing one verifiable task, and setting boundaries for access and actions that need your approval.

What is OpenAI Dots?

OpenAI Dots is an AI agent experience for ongoing work, with its own cloud computer. OpenAI introduced it on September 29, 2026. The official Dots announcement explains the product's direction and capabilities.

For a small team, a useful starting question is: which tasks stall because someone needs to find information, summarize it, and follow up? Choose a clear result, such as meeting decisions or a list of questions for a supplier. Keep the first assignment small enough to inspect.

This guide reflects documentation checked on October 6, 2026. The exercises below are suggested practice tasks, not product test results or client case studies.

Check access before choosing a plan

The Dots access documentation lists Pro 100/200/500 for users over 18 outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Business Premium and Enterprise are rolling out worldwide; Enterprise requires administrator enablement.

Indonesia is outside those Pro exclusions. That is an inference from the regional rules, not a guarantee that your account already has access. Look for Dots in the account you plan to use. Avoid buying a plan solely on the assumption that the feature will appear immediately.

For a company or university, establish who can approve app connections. A personal account that can open a document is not necessarily the organization's approved route for processing it.

How to start using OpenAI Dots

The getting-started guide directs users to create a dot in the desktop app or a desktop browser. Apps can be connected during setup or later. Subsequent mobile-app use depends on the supporting update; mobile web is not supported.

For your first exercise:

  1. Choose a task that ends with a document or action list.
  2. Prepare sample material without business secrets or customer data.
  3. Specify the reader, language, length, and deadline with a time zone.
  4. Request sources for important facts and a list of uncertainties.
  5. Review the result before expanding the task or adding access.

Personalizing a dot's name and appearance is optional. A clear assignment is more important for judging a practice result. “Help with all my work” is difficult to turn into a fair test.

Separate cloud, laptop, and app access

A dot's cloud environment is separate. Local work requires a connected, online computer with ChatGPT open. Your personal browser sessions do not automatically become the dot's sessions. See the computer and app guide.

Before connecting an account, list the sources needed, their owners, whether reading is sufficient, and where results may be shared. A public-catalog exercise does not require the entire company inbox. For internal documents, use a copy approved by the data owner.

First task example: prepare a workshop

This suggested exercise works for a training team or university event organizer:

Use this sample agenda and participant profile to draft a two-hour AI workshop in Indonesian. Include learning objectives, timing, participant requirements, and five questions the organizers must decide. Label assumptions. Do not contact participants or change the calendar. Return the draft for my review.

Assess four things: does the timing add up, do the exercises fit the participants, does every requirement have a reason, and are undecided questions left open? If the output misses the mark, improve the brief before adding integrations. For more detailed action boundaries, read the safer Dots delegation guide.

For recurring work, specify frequency, time zone, end date, and notification destination. The Dots task documentation recommends verifying saved schedules; ending a conversation does not automatically cancel assigned work.

Pricing and usage limits: what should you budget?

At launch, the first dot is included in eligible Pro or Business Premium plans. Deeper work has an allowance, while Work and Codex tasks follow their respective product limits. Plan inclusion is explained in the OpenAI Help Center; Work/Codex limits are covered in the access guide.

For a purchase decision, record the plan price actually offered to your account, any additional services needed, and staff review time. Being included in a subscription does not mean unlimited capacity. Check whether accepted outputs really reduce correction work before estimating savings.

Frequently asked questions

Is OpenAI Dots available to users in Indonesia?

Check your account and administrator settings before planning use. Regional eligibility does not ensure access because rollout is gradual.

Is OpenAI Dots pricing included in a ChatGPT plan?

The launch announcement includes the first dot in eligible Pro or Business Premium plans. Deeper work has an allowance; Work and Codex tasks use those products' limits. Check the current offer and usage for your account.

Must I connect my laptop for a dot to work?

Not for work that can run in the cloud. Local files and applications need a separate connection, and the local computer must be available while it is being used.

What should I bring to OpenAI Dots training with Fahmi?

Bring one process to improve, sample data you can safely share, criteria for a correct result, and a list of actions that need approval. Confirm account access before a practical session.
